NARHA HORSES FOR HEROES

“Appreciating the power of the horse to change lives is our goal,” said NARHA  Past President Dr. Paul Spiers, “and NARHA wants to provide positive change for these very special lives. Our service personnel have fought to preserve our freedom, and, for many, at a very dear cost. We must be certain that if our wounded service personnel and veterans need and want this kind of help, they will get the best NARHA has to offer.”

GIVING BACK:  “HORSES FOR HEROES” Veterans Program

We are happy to announce our “Horses For Heroes!” program scheduled to begin in the summer of 2010, at The City of Pompano Beach Sand & Spurs Equestrian Park. This program is being created to help veterans with physical and emotional scars heal from the ravages of war. This is a very special program that is dear to us. As with all our programs, this program will be conducted by our national NARHA standards of practice.

We are currently looking for good people to help us create and implement this therapeutic program for our veterans so that we can provide them, free of charge, with the means to heal through the many benefits of the horse. Please contact us if you would like to help in any way!

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

Volunteering: Offering a small amount of your time, patience, or just an ear, to give back to our most honored citizens.

Financially: Monetary donations are desperately needed. For example, a program such as this requires specialized horses and therapeutic equipment like a Hoya Lift. We need to fundraise $42,000 for the entire program for the first year of treatment. Sponsor a veteran, a horse, or much needed adaptive equipment. We know that in these trying times there are many charities asking for help and we appreciate your donation and will guarantee that your sacrifice will go in full towards repaying these brave men and women for their sacrifice.

Fundraising: Offering a fundraising event of your own, or assisting us with one of ours that will benefit this program.  We have 2 scheduled events:

Horses For Heroes Golf Tournament on June 5, 2010 (We need teams, sponsors, and volunteers!)

Kentucky "Derby Day" Horse Show & Festival on May 1, 2010. (We need sponsors, riders, and volunteers over 12 years of age and spectators of all ages to come and join in!)

NARHA Horses For Heroes Mission:

"Our mission: NARHA Horses for Heroes assists military veterans through services provided by NARHA members and by providing leadership and guidance for equine assisted activities and therapies.

To accomplish this mission, NARHA centers connect with Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers and Clinics, as well as individual veterans. Veterans of any age can benefit from the program and by being involved with equines."
